I have recently got back in to Japanese culture, been a music fan this obviously involved listening to Japanese music. My main love is the J-Rock genre, although I do enjoy J-POP and J-Soundtracks. Yes I am just taking musical genres and adding a J to them. I thought that I would share some of my discoveries, this is probably more of a starting point though. I have tried to include links for Spotify, and Apple Music as well as Amazon where possible.

So I know I have failed to blog in the last few months, but I thought I would take this opportunity to round up 2016 for me.

Recently I have been decluttering my live. I started off where probably everyone does, with the physical. The hope was that by decluttering my surroundings I would be able to focus better when needed, relax easier and generally remove some of the unneeded stress. The ultimate goal been of course to be happier in the long run. One day though I had spend a couple of hours decluttering my night stand, and then went on the computer. Before doing anything productive, I thought I would check my emails, after the Great Notification Cull I don’t get notifications around email anymore so I have to check it. I looked at my tidy surroundings and realised my inbox was a mess. We live so much of our lives online now, I thought that maybe I should be embark on a digital declutter as well. Digital media tends to get overlooked, your not going to be crushed to death by your digital clutter, and its easy to turn off the device and ignore it. This digital clutter can effect your mental state though, in the same way as physical clutter.

I Am Martin - New Logo

A New Logo

Nearly 10 months ago I launched my blog here on iam.martinhaynes.me. In my first post, I set out the aims and topics that I wanted to cover. One such goal was to build a custom theme been creative and a web developer I wanted to stamp my personality on here. Obviously so far this hasn’t happened and as of today 5th Oct I am still using the first theme I installed. There are a few reasons behind this, one I wasn’t sure what visual style I wanted to take with the blog and, two been simply time in order to work on the theme. I have however been working on the visual style and theme in the background and today I wanted to share the new logo. I also thought I would share some of the process of getting it to here.

I know I haven’t posted for a while, so I thought that I would create a simple list of all the Anime that I have caught up on this year. This has been an Anime filled year, having re-discovered my affection for the genre in February. As you can tell, I am a bit of an Anime fan, I am sure there are people out there that have seen far more Anime than me but this is a fair amount for me. I have only included the Anime that I actually finished not the stuff I started and then abandoned cough Seven Sins cough. I mainly watch Anime on Netflix and Blu-Ray/DVD though recently discovered Crunchyroll. You can check out more of what I have and am watching on my Hummingbird profile, I try to keep it up to date. Hopefully this list will help you discover something new, or rediscover something you loved in the past. This is simple a list, I was going to create a link to each item on Amazon, but a lot of it isn’t on there (I know I was shocked too).

Kickstarter

In recent years, crowdfunding has become mainstream. Mainstream news and media regularly report on Crowdfunding hits and more often misses. I am a great lover and supporter of crowdfunding, having backed 75 projects on Kickstarter to date. I have also backed projects on other platforms including a book and a legal case. The growth in the sector has spawned a large number of crowdfunding platforms, ether general like Kickstarter and IndieGoGo or specialist like Fig (Aimed at video games), Crowdjustice (Aimed at supporting legal action), Unbound (Aimed at book publishing) to name but a few.

Kill La Kill

Next on my Anime Spotlight series is Kill La Kill. Kill La Kill is another series available on Netflix, I however watched the collectors editions of the BluRays.

Kill La Kill is set in a fictional Japanese high school called Honnouji Academy. The school is situated on the Tokyo Bay island of Honno City. The main story follows the Scissor blade wielding Ryuko Matoi. When we first meet Matoi she is traveling from school to school looking for her fathers killer, and ends up at Honnouji Academy. It is here that she meets Lady Satsuki Kiryuin, the student council president, as well as meeting her new friend and side kick Mako Mananshoku.

Kill La Kill

I recently wrote “Anime – A Quick Intro” where I spoke about some of the myths regarding Anime. One of these myths was “It is Sexual”, I however forgot to mention Fan Servicing. This is probably because although I was aware of the practise, I had rarely personally come across it. My original advice in the post still stands, use the rating as a guide and if you don’t like it move on to something else.

This was going to be a blog post about blogs that I love, like and or follow but I added in some Youtube channels and twitter accounts etc, so now its just Cool Stuff. Inspired by one of my friends that did a similar thing recently, I thought I would steal her idea and do one of my own. Prepare for a voyage through my Internet world, and discover the stuff that inspires and interests me.
